Dear Floyd Family,

Kudos to all students in our Visual Arts Program and Ms. Lisa Collins!  Your display at the Mable House Arts Gallery is AWESOME!!  Please visit the Mable House Arts Gallery with your families and neighbors through April 3.  Thank you Floyd Family for participating in a very well-attended Opening Night on March 6.

We are proud to announce that our 7th and 8th Grade Chorus Students, directed by Ms. Kathrin Stewart, received two TOP SUPERIOR Ratings at their Large Group Performance Evaluation.  They received an additional two excellent ratings as well as many compliments with on the spot constructive feedback.  Thank you to the parent chaperones who helped to supervise our students.  We are so proud of our students and staff!

As we have encouraged all students all year, each and every student needs to focus on IMPROVING his or her performance in grades, attendance, reading, writing, and math achievement, Milestones testing, behavior, and every area for total health and well-being.  Please remind students to complete page 29 of their AGENDA book.  Please read here about the Georgia Milestones.  Students in 6th and 7th grades will take the assessment online.  8th grade students will take the assessment in paper/pencil format.  Study and Resource Guides can be found here.

Week of March 12-17:  School Board Appreciation Week; We appreciate the representation by our member, Ms. Susan Thayer.

Dear Floyd Family,

As we have encouraged all students all year, each and every student needs to focus on IMPROVING his or her performance in grades, attendance, reading, writing, and math achievement, Milestones testing, behavior, and every area for total health and well-being.  Please examine page 29 of your child’s AGENDA book to see his/her recorded progress.  Please read here about the Georgia Milestones.  Students in 6th and 7th grades will take the assessment online.  8th grade students will take the assessment in paper/pencil format.  Study and Resource Guides can be found here.  Students registered for Saturday School Tutoring should come 9:00-12:00 on March 3, 10, 17, and 24.

School safety continues to be a major concern for all of us.   We certainly feel compassion for all victims and communities that have suffered loss and unimaginable violence.  In an effort to prepare staff and students for multiple situations, we practice a variety of drills throughout the year.  Some safety drills are announced and some are unannounced.   We will have an increase in unannounced drills prompted by the district providing immediate feedback to schools on preparedness strategies.  Next week teachers will be talking with students about their class safety plans during code red drills specifically.

Please view a short video highlight from the Financial Literacy Tour on October 25 as part of Operation Hope.  Also, check out coverage from Career Day on December 15.

Week of Feb. 26-March 2, 2018

February 22, 2018 at 3:58 pm | Posted in Uncategorized | Leave a comment

Dear Floyd Family,

I hope you are all enjoying Winter Break and the extra quality time with our children.  We look forward to all students returning to school on Monday, Feb. 26 with a focus on learning and a mission to “Perform with Excellence!”  Third quarter is moving rather quickly and we will be upon state testing in April very soon!!

Floyd encourages you to familiarize yourselves with the Duke TIP Talent Search Program for our 6th and 7th grade students. Participants in the Duke TIP Talent Search identify academic strengths, develops abilities and interests, and celebrate academic achievements. Additionally, some students will be eligible to take the ACT or SAT practice test while in the program. Duke TIP also provides a number of beneficial programs and seminars for the selected students. If you have any additional questions, please email our Gifted Coordinator at Laura.Thomson@cobbk12.org.

On a lighter note, I will leave you with an opportunity to explore an exciting activity for your students.  Teen Forum is sponsored by the Marietta-Roswell Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc.  It will take place on March 17 from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Lindley Middle School, 50 Veterans Memorial Highway SE in Mableton.  Parent sessions will be provided as well as those for middle and high school students.

Please view a short video highlight from the Financial Literacy Tour on October 25 as part of Operation Hope.  Also, check out coverage from Career Day on December 15.

Respectfully Submitted,

Dr. Teresa W. Hargrett
